SHUTTER SPEED

MOVEMENT OF A CLOCK

For a few days I have been experimenting with different shutter speeds. The first time I was experimenting I photographed a clocks movement. Here are the images:-

f/25
2 secs

In this photograph it's as if there is two of the moving chime. The actual clock is in focus as this isn't moving. There is a slight blur due to me not using a tripod.

f/18
1/2 sec

In this photograph I put the clock in the centre of the composition. However there is some reflection of the room I am in on the face of the clock.

f/22
1 sec

In this image the clock is slightly of centre. I have done this so that you can not see as much reflection on the image.

MOVING PERSON

Having done light writing with a long shutter speed I have decided to use this tecnique to record people moving. Here I got my brother to do motions for example jumping to see if I got good results.

f/29
0.8 secs
In this image the person was throwing a ball in the air.

f/29
1.6 sec

In this image he is kicking a ball against a bench, which we can see on the right side in yellow.

f/22
1.3 sec

Here he is jumping in the air as we can see from the feet no touching the floor.

f/22
1.3 sec

Although faint, here the person is running past the view of the camera. This is only visable on the pavement at the bottom of the image. To gain more view of the runner I would either get the person to jog more slowly or decrease the shutter speed...

CANDLE

f/25
25 secs

f/25
13 secs

In these images the candle light has created a glow due to the long shutterspeed, more light is being let into the camera therefore there is no detail around the candle light.

RUNNING WATER

f/16
6 secs

f/16
6 secs

In the two images I poured 1 glass of water into the other. By recording it with a long shutter speed the water looks unliquid like. My hand is also blurred from me moving it. The glass and background is fully focused due to me putting the camera on the table.

LIGHT MOVEMENT

In a dark room a moved a bunch of fairy lights in multiple directions to achieve these images, when I used a longer exposure a captured a lot more strokes making the images busier.

BONFIRE NIGHT

On the 5th of November I went to a Brabyns park bonfire and firework display, I thought this was a good opportunity to get some long exposure/ shutter speed shots. Here are some of the results...

BONFIRE

f/6.3
ISO 1250
5 secs

The way I have used a long exposure in this image it has let more light into the lens as it is taken at night and the people around the bonfire appear quite ghostly die to the slight movement of the camera without using a tripod.

f/6.3
ISO 6400
1 sec

f6.3
ISO 1600
1/40 secs

Using a shorter exposure has created less light on the people concentrating on the actual fire.

FIREWORKS

f/6.3
ISO 6400
1/160

Quick shutter speed.

f/5.6
ISO 100
1 sec

A slightly prolonged shutter has created red lines, where the light had been.

f/5.6
ISO 100
5 secs

f/5.6
ISO 100
2 secs

f/5.6
ISO 100
2 secs

I like this image as it fills the composition, going from a line to light dots.

f/5.6
ISO 100
2 secs

f/5.6
ISO 100
7 secs

I have moved my camera in downward action in this image which has created lines down the image.

f.5.6
ISO 100
6 secs

f/5.6
ISO 100
3 secs

f.5.6
ISO 100

f/5.6
ISO 100

f/5.6
ISO 100
3 secs

f/5.6
ISO 100
2 secs

f5.6
ISO 100

f/5.6
ISO 100
2 secs

I like the way a silhouette is created of the tree due to the firework and light being behind it .

f5.6
ISO 100
6 secs

f5.6
ISO 100
8 secs

I think this is my favourite image due to there being a slight light dust effect and again a silhouette is created. It also fills the composition.
