COMBINATIONS OF LIGHT WORKSHOP

USING COMBINATION OF LIGHT POSITIONS...

This is a diagram of all the light positions we explored when looking at combinations of light. In the following images we have looked at each light position on it's own, with a reflector and using combinations of positions.

MAIN LIGHT

f8, 1/100 secs

We had the main light to the right of model. The main light is the primary lighting source and is the brightest light in the set up. It cast the largest shadows, it is used to light up the subject. The light allows us to emphasise shape and form.

FILL LIGHT

This light is darker than the main light it is used to bounce back light to create less contrast between sides of the face. This is like using a reflector to stop harshness and big shadows.

BACKGROUND LIGHT

This lights whatever is behind my subject, rather that the subject itself. It is always aimed at the background.

RIM LIGHTING

This light is placed directly behind the subjects head, this has created a detailed ouline to the model. I partcularly like how it emphasises the subjects hair.

RIM AND MAIN

This makes the image a lot brighter, I don't really like using the main light with the rim as it pulls away the ouline and emphasis created.

HAIRLIGHT

This light is placed to the side slightly and is quite high in order to light up the hair, this would be a good light to use if I was doing a advertising campaign for a hair product.
